Patio furniture can make outdoor spaces just as nice as indoor spaces. And just as you would clean furniture inside the house, outdoor furniture needs a little attention, too. This video by America’s leading home improvement chain explains how to clean plastic, metal and wood outdoor furniture and even outdoor carpets. When cleaning patio furniture, always check the care tag for specific instructions.

Plastic, Resin, Resin Wicker and Metal Garden Furniture

  1. Wash outdoor furniture made from plastic, resin, resin wicker, and metal with a mild detergent solution.
  2. Scrub detailed areas with a non-abrasive brush or sponge.
  3. Rinse the outdoor furniture thoroughly with a garden hose.

Wood and Wicker

  1. Clean lightly-soiled finished wood or wicker outdoor furniture with a household spray cleaner and wipe dry.
  2. Clean dirtier wood or wicker outdoor furniture with an oil-based soap following manufacturer’s recommendations.
  3. Apply the soap with a soft brush, cloth or rag, and wipe clean. Rinse if recommended.

Treated Wood

  1. Using a pressure washer with a low pressure tip, apply a deck/fence cleaning solution, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
  2. Spray clean.
