Most of us enjoy eating outdoors during the warmer summer months. In fact the first sign of sun and us Brits generally don’t need an excuse to get the BBQ out. However, if you really want to enjoy your garden during the summer, then you really need a set of Lazy Susan garden furniture, from relaxed sofa style 4 seater Rattan sets to classic 4 seater cast aluminium dining sets, we have something for all tastes.

This video from VideoJug and Aspect Maintenance demonstrates how to paint wicker furniture. Beware of unsightly blobs and paint spray! Do it right the first time…

Tom from Aspect Maintenance shows you how to paint wicker furniture. The one thing to bear in mind when trying to paint something like this, which is just a wicker trunk, it’s going to need a spray finish because in order for the paint to get into all the nooks and crevices. If you put it on with a brush it’s just going to drip through and you’re going to end up jamming up the paint. It’s going to collect and it’s not going to give you a nice even finish. So, if we were painting this trunk, the first thing you would need to do is make sure you sheet up all around it, probably two to three meters away. As you’re spraying it with a spray paint you’ll obviously get a lot of fine paint residue that’s always in the atmosphere and settles. If it settles on your furniture or your floor it’s going to stay there and it’s going to be a nightmare to get off. So just make sure…

Forget all those predictions about impending “galactic alignment’ and doomsday 2012. From a garden point of view, this year promises to be very exciting for Lazy Susan and the wider world of gardening. Gardeners are now in a position to conserve water, take all the hassle out of gardening and save themselves some a little money in the process. These are our (please don’t hold us to them, as we have been known to get things a little bit wrong in the past) predictions for what’ll be hot in the world of gardening this year…

It’ll be all white

White metal furniture has a special crispness to it. White just gives a balcony or patio a fresh playful look. It creates a bold statement without fighting against the green or stone of a classical garden. Described as “well-made” and “beautiful” buy our customers, the white Lily set from Lazy Susan (shown above) is a stylish and classic metal patio furniture set made from solid cast aluminium that is designed for use outside all year round.

Classic and modern collide

Furniture designs for 2012 will definitely feature a combination of modern and classic features. There

…

Designing a garden from scratch can be a challenge – and it’s often difficult to know where to start. Even redesigning an existing garden, a part of the garden or just one flower bed can prove tricky. And, at the end of the day, we garden because we love it. But be honest, aren’t there times when you just can’t face dragging out the hose? Well I guarantee that these garden design books will help you add the wow factor to your garden, giving you that little jolt of inspiration we sometimes need. These publications are just a few of our favourites and they’ll help to give your garden a fresh, new look with practical, comprehensive guides that include everything from choosing a style, drawing up plans to selecting the best plants and features. All of them are fully illustrated, and they range from classical Italian and English country cottage to modern and minimal. They are a great starting point and will help you to select the right look for your garden.

Are you gardening in freezing temperatures? Check out some of Lazy Susan’s favourite winter gardening videos… Winterizing your garden can save you lots of time in the Spring. The first video (below) from John at http://www.growingyourgreens.com/ takes you on a field trip to Tonopah Community Garden and the Spring Preserve in Las Vegas, NV to see what is growing in the desert during the winter time. The daytime temperature was 37 and the nighttime low was 26 degrees… Okay not as cold as the UK in winter, but Lazy Susan still enjoyed the video and you have to admire John’s passion for veg.

The video below from Green Talk show’s you what is still growing in their winter garden.

Next up is a great (see below) video from Yolanda Vanveen that shows you how to plant a winter vegetable garden, choose plants that can withstand the colder climate, such as spinach, broccoli, kale and different types of lettuce. Stagger the vegetables throughout the season to enjoy them all winter long with helpful information from a sustainable gardener in this free video on growing food.

How could we forget the UK? Well, as the government reveals its plans…

Patio furniture can make outdoor spaces just as nice as indoor spaces. And just as you would clean furniture inside the house, outdoor furniture needs a little attention, too. This video by America’s leading home improvement chain explains how to clean plastic, metal and wood outdoor furniture and even outdoor carpets. When cleaning patio furniture, always check the care tag for specific instructions.

Plastic, Resin, Resin Wicker and Metal Garden Furniture

Wash outdoor furniture made from plastic, resin, resin wicker, and metal with a mild detergent solution.

Scrub detailed areas with a non-abrasive brush or sponge.

Rinse the outdoor furniture thoroughly with a garden hose.

Wood and Wicker

Clean lightly-soiled finished wood or wicker outdoor furniture with a household spray cleaner and wipe dry.

Clean dirtier wood or wicker outdoor furniture with an oil-based soap following manufacturer’s recommendations.

Apply the soap with a soft brush, cloth or rag, and wipe clean. Rinse if recommended.

Treated Wood

Using a pressure washer with a low pressure tip, apply a deck/fence cleaning solution, following the manufacturer’s instructions.

Spray clean.
