For many of us, technology and fashion have become welcome members of our homes. And our obsession with electronic gadgets and stylish furniture has now found its way to the home office. We might be working from our tricked out super styled home offices just one day a week or like me it could be full-time in the garden office. For many, the office is simply used as project central for family, house, and children. Whatever our situation, we need equipment that is both flexible and functional. The more modular the better. No matter the configurations we opt for, everything — chairs and work surfaces — must be ergonomically savvy.

When purchasing home office equipment, be it furniture or a new desktop computer, you want to consider the different configurations available the styles you prefer. The newest trend in home office design is to not make it look like an office at all, but rather an extension of your home. The key element is a comfortable ergonomic chair that’s good to sit in for a full day. Use cable tidy solutions to keep wires out of site and tangle free.

And keep up to date with the latest in office…

If you have a wooden deck, brick or natural stone patio then it is important you look after it. Especially if you want it to last as long as possible! A good patio or decked area if done properly it will always add significant value to your home. All 3 materials have a natural beauty and they’ll last longer than most other building materials, but I’m afraid that does not mean they’re all totally maintenance free and you’ll always need to give them a little regular TLC if you want to preserve their good looks. If you don’t clean your decking or brick/stone patio they will attract dirt and grime. In addition, due to the fact we see our fair share of rain in this country, you run the risk of battling mold, moss and slime that will build-up on the surface. The only way to retain the appeal and integrity of a your decking or patio is to make sure you regularly clean them.

Cleaning & maintaining your timber deck

Many modern decks are created using pressure treated pine, which will easily last up to 40 years if its cared for and well looked after. However, there are still…

The approach of Summer and the terrible weather we seem to be having this Spring, surely means we are in for a cracking summer?!?! We can only hope that many weeks of al fresco dining lie ahead of us and this brings up the problem of having to get your garden furniture out of storage or from under its winter covers. And if it is looking a little less than happy, then never fear, Lazy Susan is on hand. You don’t need to worry about buying new furniture (although we would recommend Lazy Susan if you do need to purchase new), with a little minor TLC and a little effort you can have that garden furniture looking as good as new.

When cleaning any type of garden furniture only clean the cushions when it is absolutely necessary and this will keep the cushion fabric from wear and tear. And even if the furniture stays outside for the winter or during any summer rain, you should still keep or bring the cushions inside. When washing natural rattan, always use a soft cloth that has been dampened with furniture polish or a mild washing-up liquid/warm water mix. Water and soap can…

Today we have been really busy working with our lovely visual merchandiser Gemma to style a garden room for a beautiful Lazy Susan garden room. Donna, the store manager of Feather & Black Chichester, made sure that we kept it practical and didn’t get carried away with filling the room with beautiful furniture and she chose for us an Evie Day Bed – perfect for pulling out to have a nap on; and a Salisbury Desk and Bookcase for a stylish work space.

Gemma says ‘The best way to style a room, whether it’s a garden room or a bedroom is to mix beautiful pattern with indulgent textures like cashmere and silks to make it feel cosy and homely. I took inspiration from the countryside and accessorised a subtle palette of creams and whites with bold floral pattern and natural woods.’

The floral wallpaper from Graham and Sanderson brings the outside in, and the soft throws and cushions make it feel like a place to escape too- a little hideaway at the bottom of your garden. I hate to mention the recession ( it’s a word we hear too often), but as many are deciding to stay…

A good patio or deck provides you with the outdoor living space for you, your family and any guests you would like to entertain. Adding the perfect garden furniture to the area provides the perfect spot for enjoying meals, BBQ’s, a cup of tea or any other table based activities you might want to do outside when the sun is shining. However, deciding on the right size and shape of table to buy takes a little more consideration than you might think. Different shapes offer distinct advantages for the patio area itself. Be it oval, round, square or a rectangular shape picking the right one to suit your needs and the size/shape of your patio is a tricky one that’s worth getting right.

The nature of a patio table is such that it tends to define your outdoor space. It will divide your patio or decking area up into various walkways, that will then force people to travel left or right, along or aside the garden table itself. It is essentially the backbone of your patio, and at the same time, it will define the nature of interactions in that space. Conversations will occur across its surface, drinks will be…

A garden room is a big investment. They might not be as expensive as a traditional brick built extension, but they still require the same amount of thought and careful planning to ensure you get exactly what you want and need. There so many different designs, styles and materials to choose from and, unless you have some experience in the construction industry, then the choice can appear a little overwhelming. On top of that, there are many different suppliers and manufactures to choose from, and the way in which they work in terms of product and service can also vary dramatically. However, no matter what and where you purchase, there are a few essential things you need to consider before you say yes to a new garden room…

To start with, are you 100% sure of the purpose that the garden room will serve? Will it be used as a garden office, design/artists studio, granny annexe or playroom etc? Clarify you and your families exact requirements for the structure and ensure that it will met by the final solution you purchase. For example, if the building is being purchased to be used as a garden design studio, then good lighting…

Getting the Lazy Susan showroom garden ready for spring is something that, like everybody else, we try to fit in around work. We may be in the depths of winter but for gardens, but the worst is surely over, and to be honest compared to the previous couple of winters its been pretty mild and snow free. It’s still cold, we are forecast Arctic conditions from Russia, and the nights are still depressingly long, but with January now out the way, 2012 in full spring, it won’t be long until we see the first signs of spring.

Transplant shrubs:

With the weather getting milder, spring is in full swing now, and one of the most important jobs that we always tackle at this time of year is that if you have any shrubs that need transplanting, February is the perfect time to do it. Try and pick a mild sunny day, or at the very least a day when the ground is not frozen, and before you lift the shrub, dig the new hole first. If you have a poor soil, then partially back-fill the hole with a good quality compost and sprinkle in a little bone meal just for…

So where exactly did the garden room come from? When was the first one built? Who decided that a fully insulated, double glazed, electrically wired building that is usually made from timber and usually built freestanding (i.e. not connected to the house like a conservatory) in your garden was fantastic idea? Maybe it was inspired by eminent 18th century English architect, landscape gardener and furniture designer, William Kent, and his ‘potting shed’ that created a desire to have a garden retreat away from the main house? Or maybe it was the construction of over 2 million Anderson air raid shelters in the late 1930’s? I’m afraid I just cant find a definitive answer and I have researched this question online and in books. One thing that we do know at Lazy Susan is that the garden room in its many variations, as with the potting shed and greenhouse, has earned place alongside mother nature – and it fully deserves its long-term existence due to these many forms and functions.

Throughout history the garden room has existed in these many forms. For example, as far back as ancient Egypt, Rome and Asia people have always sought refuge from the blazing heat of the…
