From plastic resin to cast aluminium… There’s nothing better than relaxing in the sun on your very own sun lounger. The ancients have been doing it for thousands of years; the Egyptians enjoyed their sun-gardens, the Romans even had a name for sunbathing – ‘apricatio,’ although it was only something that the men folk were allowed to partake in. Nowadays, with greater awareness of the dangers of sunbathing, it has become a bit of a faux pas. However, if you’re sensible and use a high SPF, you can still enjoy all the benefits that a Lazy Susan cast aluminium metal sun lounger has to offer.

But where did the sun lounger come from? Well its a good job you asked Lazy Susan. We’ll start with the ancients, from the Aztecs and Mayans to ancient Egyptians, they idolised and worshipped the sun, even believing it to have magical healing powers. The benefits of sunlight and air were one of the predominant parts of Hippocratic theory in the 5th century BC. Herodotus believed that the sun had the power to strengthen muscles and nerves and Philostratus wrote that Olympian athletes were required to take a sun bath as part of their training…

In your garden, there’s definitely no better place to relax than on your patio or decking. Where better can you sit back and enjoy the cool morning summer breeze whilst sipping coffee and reading your favorite newspaper? Or spend a lazy sunny Saturday afternoon with cold drinks, chatting to friends whilst your husband tries (in vain) to light the BBQ. You simply can’t beat a good patio when the sun is shining. And, if you have a newly built patio, then the most important part of creating that comfort and relaxation is you need to get some good garden furniture to make it complete. Patio tables, chairs, benches, and plant containers etc will all help to create just the right ambiance. Just make sure that the furniture that you buy for your patio is specifically designed for outdoor use and that it has been built to withstand the worst of what Mother Nature can throw at it… In the UK we can get some pretty harsh weather conditions, so it’s a good idea to invest in quality garden furniture that has been made of corrosion-resistant materials such as wicker, teak, cedar, cast aluminum, wrought iron, or stainless steel.

The key to enjoying your garden is simple… Comfortable outdoor garden furniture! Today’s modern garden furniture is as different as summer is from winter. This year’s designs are so stylish your indoor furniture will turn green (or maybe that should be teal) with envy. New fabrics are soft as cotton, yet strong enough to last seemingly forever, even when exposed to the UK’s unpredictable climate. New technology means softer, dryer fabrics for your garden furniture. The days of scratchy nylon are a thing of the past. At Lazy Susan we’ve just seen some new samples of the latest outdoor fabric from Sunbrella and their were some great colours and patterns and they also now have a super soft cotton, silk, linen, chenille, suede and a myriad high textural wovens. Sunbrella dries quickly if caught in a shower and resists fading.

Modern garden furniture is quite an important part of home furnishings, especially with all the warm weather we seem to be getting in the UK at the moment. With this blog post we wanted to try and give you a few unbiased ideas (we will try I promise, but we can’t help it if we think Lazy Susan’s garden furniture is…

Any garden spring cleaning routine you have planned always needs to include a little special attention to your garden furniture. Although, garden furniture is usually made of durable materials such as the cast aluminium we choose to sell at Lazy Susan, constant exposure to the elements will see dirt build up on the surface or with other materials such as iron or timber it could be much worse if a little regular care and attention is not done. This is Lazy Susan’s comprehensive guide to spring cleaning and maintaining the popular types of garden furniture sold in the UK, helping you to get it ready for what will hopefully be a long hot summer in 2011.

So this weekend, why don’t you drag out your garden furniture and give it a little spring cleaning and the best place to start is by washing it from top to bottom. For plastic patio furniture, it might be just as easy as turning on the garden hose or using a pressure washer to rinse all the patio furniture pieces off. If you have wicker, teak or any other wood-based garden furniture pieces, do not use a pressure washer as they can easily…

Cast aluminum is a specific metal that has gone through one of the several processes known as casting. Essentially, cast aluminum is created when methods such as die casting, mold casting, or sand casting are used to temper the aluminum for use in creating components for many different types of products. Cast aluminum is used for a number of items around the house, as well as machinery and other products that are necessary to the manufacturing of a wide range of goods and services.

One of the more common applications of cast aluminum (apart from garden furniture) is in the creation of cookware. Just as cast iron is used for skillets, pans, and other kitchen essentials, cast aluminium can also be used for to manufacture these items too. Generally, cookware is created using the die cast method, and this ensures that the cookware can withstand the high temperatures required to cook food properly and will remain useful for a number of years with no more than minimal cleaning and care.

Cast aluminum is also used to create outdoor furniture, such as the range sold by Lazy Susan. While not quite as well known as the more traditional cast iron…

Good modern garden design always starts with a good plan. While some people are able to plan their garden by just walking about in it or working in stages, most of us need to start out with a clear drawn out plan. Start by thinking about what you want from the finished garden – what kind of a look and feel do you want to achieve in the end? Clarify your needs from the off and then decide in your own mind what kind of garden would meet those needs. Modern garden design gives us many choices and the final choice will depend on a number of factors.

How much time do you want to spend working in the garden? If your idea of gardening is sitting on your Lazy Susan Emma chair with a glass of wine and a good book, a formal layout or a ‘knot’ garden is probably not for you. The formal rose garden, although stunning to look at, seems to have fallen out of favour in modern garden design as they require a vast amount of maintenance. Nowadays we tend to plant roses as a focal point or as part of a mixed border, climbers or…

Here’s our top 7 simple tips to help you purchase the right furniture for your garden and hopefully help you to have some fun doing it.

Tip 1

Decide how you will use your garden. Do you want room to stretch out and sun bathe or will you want to have lots of people over for a barbecue and outside entertaining? If you are planning to eat outside, then make sure you have plenty of table space to hold all the food and dishes you need. If you eat inside, but bring your drinks outside after dinner, then small bistro tables will suit you just fine. If you are planning on having a lot of people over, you will need to ensure that you have adequate seating for everyone.

Tip 2

Measure the exact size of your garden or backyard before buying patio furniture. Most garden centres and photography feature large arrangements and its easy to lose the scale of your garden. What looks small in a photograph or garden centre could be too large for your garden. When you find furniture that you like, take measurements and then go back to your garden or patio area. Tape up…

No-one disputes that the weather in the UK is unpredictable to say the least, which is why a furniture set for the garden that can be left outdoors unprotected at all times is ideal for this country. When you buy a large round garden table from Lazy Susan, you will be getting a top quality cast aluminium table that will require zero maintenance and that will look elegant now and in the future. Simply having a table is clearly insufficient, which is why we have a range of garden furniture sets in a range of styles and sizes to suit all requirements and budgets. If you are simply looking for a few chairs to match an existing table or to augment existing furniture sets then we have a couple of styles to choose from.

The Emma metal stacking chair is available in a choice of antique bronze, verdigris and white and at eight kilos is a very solid chair that can be stacked away for winter storage. If you need some cushions to go with the chairs then our choice of high back cushions are available in stone, navy blue and apple green, colours which we feel suit the…

Perfect garden furniture can enhance the beauty of a well-maintained garden. You need to be careful when selecting garden furniture so that you can maximize your relaxation and minimize the need for cleaning and maintenance. Comfort, durability and style are some of the attributes you need to look in for perfect garden furniture and here are a few tips from Lazy Susan when it comes to selecting the right garden furniture.

JESSICA Oval Cast Aluminium Garden Furniture
