The best Home and Garden shows for 2014

We love a good trade show at Lazy Susan. Gives us a chance to see what’s happening in garden furniture industry and the wider home sector. Plus it gets you out the office for a day or so.

So while I’m pulling together my calendar for the year, booking tickets etc, I thought I’d share with you what we at Lazy Susan feel are the UK’s best home and garden shows for 2014.

The Gardens Theatre at Grand Design Live 2010

The Gardens Theatre at Grand Design Live 2010

And rather than just doing them in order of preference, I have listed them by date, along with a little blurb about why we like them and why you should visit…

Grand Designs Live

ExCeL from 3rd – 11th May 2014

This has to be one of my favourite home shows. I have exhibited there a couple of times in a previous life. This event is always packed with exhibitors, across seven different sections, and it covers everything from interiors, gardens, food and housewares to kitchens and bathrooms, home improvement, self-build, renovation, technology and shopping.

Sponsored by Anglian Home Improvements, this is the tenth Grand Designs Live (yikes, I went to the first one, is it that long ago?), so we can expect an even bigger and better show than ever before.

RHS Chelsea Flower Show

May 21st – 24th

A must visit for anybody in the garden industry. Its a British institution, and well, a great day out! It never fails to make headlines around the world and 2014 will be no exception.

The prestigious show gardens are always a great source of inspiration for us, in terms of both product development, and our showroom garden. And while it has been overtaken by Hampton Court in terms of size, for Lazy Susan it is still the best and most prestigious of flower shows.

Clerkenwell Design Week

Held in showrooms across Clerkenwell, London, 21-23rd May

Many of you might think this show is a bit of an odd choice for Lazy Susan, but we were blown away by our last visit. The area of Clerkenwell is home to more creatives and architects per square mile than anywhere else on the planet, making it one of the most important design hubs in the world.

The Design Week was created to showcase leading UK and international brands via a series of showroom events, pop-up exhibitions and special installations.

Manchester Furniture Show

Manchester Central, 14-17th July

Manchester Furniture Show is the leading summer event for the UK furniture and furnishings industry. It always throws up a number of new faces keen to make an impact on the market. So from our point of view, it the perfect way to keep an eye on trends, and see what the competition are up to.

In terms of why you might want to visit, well it covers all aspects of domestic furniture from living and dining to beds and bedroom furniture plus accessories including pictures, mirrors and lighting. If you’re into interiors, then you need to go!

100% Design

Earls Court, London, 18th-21st September

100% Design another must visit for furniture industry professionals in the UK. Staged over 20,000m2 at London’s Earls Court, 100% Design is the commercial cornerstone of the London Design Festival.

The show is defined by four key industry sections; Interiors, Workplace, Kitchen & Bathrooms and Eco Design & Build. A little light on the Garden Furniture side for my liking, it is nevertheless, well worth a look.

BirminghamNEC, 15-17th September

Glee is a must visit, it is awash with the UK’s top garden suppliers, cutting edge new products and invaluable advice for garden centres. It is easily the UK’s biggest garden tradeshow.

It features some of the leading UK and international wholesale garden suppliers and is a great place to see housands of new products. In the gardening world it is one of the few shows you’ll get to see all the latest trends and the most innovative products on the market.

Birmingham NEC, 8-10th July

SOLEX (or The Summer Outdoor Living Exhibition to give it its full nom de plume) is an annual event that brings together all the leading manufacturers of garden products – from furniture, barbecues, gazebos, parasols to outdoor lighting and play equipment

It provides a great showcase for all the exciting new developments in design, environmental manufacturing, sustainability and production for both the retail and contract markets.

Lazy Susan Garden Shows

And while Lazy Susan won’t be exhibiting at any of the above shows this year, we will definitely be paying them all a visit. That said you can usually find us a various garden shows across the South of England during the summer months.

In the past we have exhibited at Surrey County Show, RHS Malvern Spring Gardening Show, Suffolk County Show, Edenbridge and Oxted Show, Newbury Show, Stansted House Garden Show, Midland Game Fair, Parham House Coutry Show to name but a few.

When the sun shines these shows are a great way of reaching our customers, so keep an eye on our main site for details of any future garden shows.
