For me, the Lazy Susan Garden Bench is more than just place to sit. Of course that is exactly what it is. But what I mean is, when you buy one, you’re getting a little bit more than just that.
You are buying a focal point. Something that you can use to centre your garden. You’re buying a design statement. Buying something that will invite people out into your garden.
Creating a simple place to sit, relax and take in your garden is truly a wonderful thing. Unlike say one of our garden table sets, a bench just says come out, sit down and enjoy all your green fingered handiwork.
In terms of garden bench materials, the obvious choice is timber, and top of the league would be teak. It is durable, strong and less prone to splitting due to the high level of natural oil it has.
The majority of timber garden benches on the market today are from ethical and sustainable sources, and they’ve been treated to further protect them from the elements.
However, that wooden bench will still require a fresh coat of preservative applied to it each year. And between you an me, that’s a job I’d rather take off the list altogether. Our cast aluminium metal garden benches are a little less demanding shall we say.
Choose a maintenance free and weatherproof garden bench
OK maybe maintenance free is a little bit of a stretch, but trust me, compared to wood they might as well be. The painted coating is 100% weather resistant, you can leave them outside all year round.
However, my advice is to once a year give them a quick wipe down with some warm soapy water. Leave it to dry and then apply a very light coat of baby oil or car wax with a lint free cloth. This just helps the paint keep its lustre and gives it a little extra protection.
The other thing to do is keep an eye our for paint chips, especially on the feet if you’re placing your bench on a stone patio. If you do find a chip, touch it up with our touch up kits.
But trust me, all this is significantly easier than trying to maintain a timber garden bench. All that sanding and staining is one big messy job.
