Last month we looked at the reasons why you might want to bring outdoor furniture pieces inside, and whilst we used a few examples of indoor outdoor furniture to illustrate the points we were making, I wanted to delve a little deeper.
I wanted to pull together some of our favourite indoor outdoor furniture pieces. Pieces that the Lazy Susan team and I think will be the must buy items for 2018.
Bringing outdoor furniture inside is a bit of a strange concept for many, but trust me there’s many benefits to using such robust pieces in the home, and many of these pieces look fantastic in there too.
Outdoor furniture is designed and manufactured to stand up to mother nature, so you know a Lazy Susan outdoor dining table (such as our Virginia set pictured above) will stand up to busy family life better than any MDF set.
For the last decade our industry has seen garden furniture evolve to closely resemble interior furniture, comfortable dining sets, outdoor sofas etc.
It was only natural I suppose that those items would slowly migrate inside via the conservatory, kitchen, dining room and so on.
Interior designers love to blur the lines between the indoors and outdoors. Making gardens feel like an extension of our homes is an excellent way to maximise space.
We are seeing more and more outdoor furniture pieces being used inside the home at shows and in the style mags. We know this is going to be one of the big trends for 2018.
Lazy Susan’s favourite indoor outdoor furniture pieces for 2018
So with all that in mind, here’s some of the garden stuff we’ve seen out there that would look just as good inside your home as it will on your patio.
And apologies to any of the retailers/manufactures we’ve featured in this indoor outdoor furniture pieces post. If you didn’t intend them to be taken inside, you can thank us for those additional sales later.
BoConcept Adelaide Furniture
I’m not going to lie, I love BoConcept furniture. My entire living room is top to bottom BoConcept.
But personal bias aside, their Adelaide range is the perfect example of outdoor pieces that can work just as well inside the home. No compromise on design.
The two-tone modern furniture features eucalyptus wood legs and white seats and table top, and works just as well indoors as it does on the patio.
Shown above is the Adelaide lounge chair and coffee table, and you can view the full Adelaide range on the BoConcept website.
Urban Chunky Scaffold Tables and Benches
The chunky style scaffold tables from OnlineReality.co.uk are constructed from pressure treated tanalised red wood and galvanised steel frame.
They come with a ten year anti-rot guarantee outdoor treatment, so you know they are built to last. Plus, you can polish them with a range of optional wood finishes from Oslo Oils to get the look you want.
The industrial look is one of the easiest ways you bring the outside into the home, to blur those so called lines.
These benches were designed for outdoor commercial use, but they’ll work just as well inside, and would definitely stand up to any punishment the kids might throw at them.
Comes assembled and ready to use and is available to order from OnlineReality.co.uk.
Grey Water Resistant Pallet Furniture Cushion
Not for everybody this one but at such a low price it is ideal for a teenage bedroom or games room. Plus you get the satisfaction of recycling an ugly old pallet and turning it into a quirky seat with your own fair hand. What’s not to love?
Gardenista recently launched it’s new range of pallet seating cushions, manufactured from a durable polyester which is easy to wipe clean and water resistant so ideal for outdoor use.
They’re designed to be used on a standard euro size pallet, the seat cushions are comfortable and durable with a polyester fibre filling, the back cushions are filled with quality hollowfibre.
Available to order in 10 colours from Gardenistauk.com.
London Bench and Picnic Table
This London Bench and Picnic Table is another bold, sophisticated and modern dining set with which you can bring inside the home and make a real statement.
Manufactured from 100% recycled plastic, it was designed for outdoor use. It is ideal for both commercial and domestic use, however, we think the stylish shape and clean lines make it the perfect addition for the inside of a modern and urban home.
It is easy to clean and low maintenance, and unlike timber it needs no surface treatment or staining required. Just what you want from your indoor outdoor furniture pieces.
Plus, it’s Durable too. The dense solid material will last at least 5 times longer than timber, with the added bonus of being chip, crack and splinter proof.
You can purchase the London Bench from RecycledFurniture.co.uk.
Acapulco Outdoor Bistro Set
This stylish balcony set with vibrant spaghetti chairs is another fantastic example of indoor outdoor furniture pieces that won’t look like you’ve dragged your garden furniture inside.
The Acapulco set is constructed of polyurethane in vibrant orange and a metal black frame, and it comes complete with a small table and two chairs.
The funky Mexican design is sure to make just as much of a statement inside the home, as it would on a balcony or patio. You can order this set from the Beliani website.
Innit Designs Acapulco Chair
Sticking with the Acapulco theme, these chairs from Innit are of a similar style to the set above. This colourful reproduction is also based on the original Acapulco style chair that was first introduced in the 1950s.
It’s available in several configurations, with 15 vinyl cord colours and four metal frame colours (black, white, chrome and copper) to choose from.
However, with the Innit range, you also have the choice of rockers, rounded backs, child-size versions and tables also are available in the collection. All of which we feel can work inside.
Tonin Casa Kos Coffee Table with Light
This is a little leftfield, but in the right home, I could really see this coffee table working as a real statement piece. Certainly it would sit comfortably in a contemporary conservatory or summer room.
This coffee table would bring a little outdoor zen into the home with its modern, minimalist Italian lines and LED lighting that casts a beautiful soft glow from within.
The removable, transparent plexiglass top allows you to store items inside the table, and it comes in a choice of six colours so you can adapt it to your interior (or exterior if you want to use it for its intended use) decor.
Room & Board Cooper Outdoor Bench
The minimal design of the Cooper bench from Room & Board means you simply can’t tell if it was intended for. That simplicity is also its biggest strength, giving it versatility.
It can be used as seating around a dining table or in a sofa area, or as a side table or coffee table. It looks just at home inside the house as outside, but is light enough to pick up and move inside/outside.
Much like the Lazy Susan range, it is constructed from solid aluminum and given a durable powder-coated finish. Cooper is available in three sizes, eight colours, and is available on the Room & Board website.
West Elm Mid-Century Outdoor Dining Set
As we touched on in our last article, the trend towards indoor outdoor furniture pieces also covers dining sets. Our new Modern collection is just at home inside the home as it is on the patio. The Mid-Century set from West Elm does the same.
Made from weather-resistant teak, this set includes six matching chairs. And if you need more seating, the table is also expandable. It comes with a leaf that takes it from 72 inches to 95 inches wide, making room for up to 10 people.
West Elm furniture is available from John Lewis, and also direct from their UK website.
