2018 has been another great year for Lazy Susan. We’re only a small family run business, but I like to think we have a product offer that punches well above our weight. Matching in my opinion, if not surpassing, many of the garden furniture pieces from leading high street chains and online retailers.
Certainly the great summer we’ve just had played a big part in the success of 2018. Sunshine helps to sell garden furniture, it is as simple as that. The more we can get outside and use our gardens, the greater the demand for items such as garden furniture to put in them. But I think there’s a little more to it than that.
Over the last 10/15 years or so we’ve seen an increased demand for ‘more’. Consumers don’t just want a garden table and a few chairs. Yes, they still want that garden table set, but they want other pieces to compliment it. To create an outdoor space that serves multiple functions, from dining to relaxation.
We’re thinking about our outdoor spaces more, styling them, looking at them as an extension of our homes, another room. We want a seamless transition from inside to outside and outside to in. Full height glass doors, continuous flooring that runs from inside to the patio, and furniture that blurs the lines.
Bringing the outside in/inside out has been the big trend in our industry for a number of years, we are viewing the garden as more than just a patch of grass or something pretty to be admired from the kitchen window. We want spaces we can use, gardens and patios we can enjoy spending time in. And it’s not just the furniture. Consumers are also demanding a more personal level of customer service.
Shopping with Lazy Susan
Our garden furniture is a big ticket online purchase, people want to feel confident when they click to buy. They want the flexibility we can provide, to guarantee they’re satisfied with their product and the customer service they receive.
As a small family run business, we can be flexible, we try to deliver that personal touch, work with you in terms of delivery type, dates etc. Operating online, means we don’t have the overheads of a bricks and mortar store. We can offer quality furniture at reasonable prices.
It is also why we invest so heavily in our website. Ensuring that it delivers in terms of function and security. We have just refreshed the look and feel of the shop, and I hope you agree it looks fantastic. We have some more exciting developments planned for the webshop next year, but I will save that for another blog post. For now, check it out, and let us know what you think in the comments below.
New Product Development for Summer 2019
Product development is the life-blood of our business. The garden furniture industry is driven by the latest home and garden trends, and as manufacturers we are striving to deliver products that are fit for purpose. As well as the latest styles and pieces of furniture, it is important that we have products that are fit for purpose. And by that I mean furniture that is comfortable, functional and will stand up to all that mother nature can throw at it.
For summer 2019 we have some incredibly exciting new products that I can’t wait to share with you in the New Year. As always, we have been working hard to ensure we can offer a product range of classically styled and modern pieces that will complete any garden or patio. Furniture that not only looks beautiful but will stand up to the elements for many a summer to come. So please watch this space.
New Shop Developments
The new developments don’t just stop with out product offer and shop refresh too. We have some more exciting plans for the main shop website for 2019 too. It is important we make use of the latest technology, and continue to strive for the best user experience. We want customers to enjoy shopping with Lazy Susan. Recommendations and positive reviews are vital to a small business like ours. A good website is key to delivering all of that.
Security is also very important. You are trusting us with your personal details, so whilst the site is fully secure, we have to stay one step ahead of the criminals to ensure it stays that way. The blog too is a big part of what we do, it is our way to share advice, news and anything else we thing you might like to read about. As with our product offer, we have some exciting things planned for it in 2019. At this stage I don’t want to say too much. It is too early to share that information, there is still much work for the Lazy Susan team and I to do.
Charity Work in 2018
Our charity work has continued to be an integral part of our business. We like to give back and it has been a fantastic way to engage with our customers. Through the ‘Do Some Good’ campaign we have been able to make significant donations to charities close to our hearts such as Charity:Water.
Charity:Water has been our principal partner since 2016. This is an organisation that works around the world to resolve the clean water crisis. Diseases from unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war. 100% of the donations they receive are used to finance projects that provide access to clean water for more than 7 million people in Africa, Asia, Central and South America. Since we kicked off our Do Some Good Campaign, we’ve raised over £30.000 for this incredible charity.
At Lazy Susan we are also actively involved in our local community too. We’ve donated the equivalent of £5.000 in garden chairs to each of two local charities located near our showroom in Chichester and offices in Portsmouth. A total donation that is the equivalent of over £10.000. These products are then sold by them and 100% of the money they make goes into their funds.
Merry Christmas and a happy New Year from the Lazy Susan team
So all that now leaves the Lazy Susan team and I to say is Merry Christmas, and all the best for 2019. We have some exciting things planned for the New Year. Our recently refreshed website is just the start of what promises to be another great year for us. Let’s just hope we see another great summer, keep those finger crossed.
However, what I will say, is that I hope you all enjoy the festive period. Myself, I’m looking forward to a full two weeks of work free merriment for the first time in many years. I cant wait. So whatever you are doing, please enjoy your Christmas, and all the very best for the New Year.
