The Sun Lounger: Put your feet up & relax

I used to think if you only had the space or budget for one piece of garden furniture, then go for a garden bench. But what about a sun lounger or two? Are they a better alternative?

To me, and OK you could say I’m a little biased, no garden is complete without garden furniture. But I stand by that 100%.

Our gardens should be used. Yes they should look good. But you should be able to go out into that space and enjoy it. Garden furniture for me is an essential component of a well designed garden.

Every garden, no matter how small, should have at least one piece. And you’ll find many an article on this blog championing the garden bench as the perfect item. I think that opinion might be changing a little.

What about a sun lounger or two? This recent heatwave has got me thinking… Yes, a garden bench is great, but you can only sit on it. On a sun lounger you can truly kick back and relax.

Our time in the sun is usually limited, so when it does shine, we need to make the most of it. Recent heatwave aside where we’ve been blessed with many a sunny weekend.

However, it’s also limited in terms of how busy our lives are. Many of us are lucky if we get a couple of hours a week just to sit and do nothing.

We need to make the most of them. Get out in our gardens and enjoy them. For me, sun loungers are the perfect item for those of us that simply want to relax in our gardens.

Why buy a sun lounger?

So while the sun lounger is nothing new, we’re seeing it take centre stage on many a British patio this summer. Sales are up and we’ve recently added several new styles/colours to our range for 2018.

John Lewis stated in House Beautiful that due to the heatwave, their sun lounger category is up 21 per cent. I think we are around the same mark. If the weather is good, then it is the perfect piece.

I also recently read an article on the Independent showcasing their favourite sun lounger designs for 2018. We weren’t included. There was some nice designs. But we weren’t included. I won’t hold it against them.

Anyway, they stated that “if you’re all about catching rays, and less keen on maintenance, go for a metal and stretched fabric version that designed to last outdoors”. Well we couldn’t agree more. And that is the basis of most of our sun loungers.

Plus, the great thing about our sun loungers is that they will not rust. They will not fade in the sun, and can be left outside all year round if you so desire.

The 2018 Lazy Susan sun lounger collection

Why should we just use the sun lounger on holiday? If we get a nice day here in the UK, and lets face it, we seem to be getting a few of them of late, they’re perfect for kicking back and relaxing.

Admittedly, I generally tend to fall asleep on mine, but hey what’s wrong with that if you’ve got a free couple of hours to do absolutely nothing?!

The Lazy Susan sun lounger combines stylish good looks with durability and exceptional comfort. This is a collection we have refined over the years. Invested time in getting the materials right.

It is a collection that has sold extremely well overseas, but in recent years has become an essential component on many a British patio.

Amber Sun Lounger

The other style in our sun lounger collection is the more classically styled, Amber lounger.

This is a cast aluminium sun lounger the comes supplied flat-pack and requires self-assembly, which is incredibly easy to do I may add.

Described by one of our customers as “stunning and very well built”, the 194cm Amber lounger is a great addition to any garden or pool side, and it coordinates perfectly with many of our classically styled benches and dining sets.

Our cast aluminium is powder coated for increased protection from the elements and durability. All our sun loungers are pretty much maintenance free, you can leave them outside, and a quick wash with soapy water every now and again will suffice.
