The latest from our Do Some Good staff charity initiative

Our staff charity initiative means the whole team can get involved and Do Some Good by nominating a charity of their choice to receive a donation.

Last summer we published an update on our Staff Charity Initiative and we wanted to share another as we’ve recently donated another £10k to a host of charities.

For the benefit of those of you who missed it, as part of our ongoing Do Some Good campaign, we launched a new all-staff charity initiative to get the entire team more involved in our philanthropy.

Michael Scott, Lazy Susan’s head honcho is always trying to find new ways to help good causes and, as a big thank you for the team's hard work and dedication, he wanted to provide them with the opportunity to support charities close to their hearts.

It could be an organisation that's helped them personally or supported a close friend or family member. It could be a charity campaign they spotted on Go Fund Me or Just Giving that struck a chord. They picked, and Michael made the donation.

Alex Clarke, Head of Marketing had the following to say about it:

"The staff initiative is a great way for us to continue the good work we've done and reach some new charities that maybe aren't on the radar of Michael and I. Since the inception of our Do Some Good campaign in 2015, we've raised over £376k thanks to the photographs our customers send us of their new Lazy Susan Garden Furniture in situ. We are always on the look out for ways to do more and so an important part of our 5 year vison for the business is to reach a target of £1,000,000. The staff nominations have become a great way to get the whole Lazy Susan team involved, help them support a charity close to their heart, and push us towards our ambitious fundraising target.”

The latest staff charity initiative donations

This month we wanted to share another update on some of the latest rounds of staff donations and who the team chose to support in their own words.

Some of the team wanted to keep their donations private and, of course, we fully respect that, so we've just included a selection of those happy to share.

Alex Clarke: Charlie's Beach Hut

Alex Clarke: Charlie's Beach Hut

"My friend's Dad was a patron of this charity for nearly a decade until he sadly passed away last year. My friend and his brothers are raising money in their dad's memory. Charlie’s is a beach hut-style caravan at Perran Sands in Perranporth which aims to provide families of children with life-limiting illnesses and families of fire-fighters that have suffered bereavement, or life-changing injury whilst in the line of duty, a relaxing environment so they can forge some forever memories, in a hope that they too can ‘Find the Wonderful in Today’.”

Michael Scott: Providing education for 150 children in Armenia

“I was adopted as a 3 month old baby, and just 6 months ago I found out that my birth father is Armenian, so I would like to do something to support the basic education of 150 disadvantaged children living in Armenia.”

Janine Brauer: UK Shaolin

Janine Brauer: UK Shaolin

“UK Shaolin improves and supports people's health and wellbeing through physical and mindful activities as well as engages the community in arts and cultural activities to explore different heritages. They currently need support to reestablish a local facility in Southampton to offer more of their services and keep young and old people active and well. This is close to my heart, as I'm actively involved in their services and experienced the benefits to health and wellbeing myself and seen the benefits in participants too.”

Nadine Pinnock: Bigmoose

Nadine Pinnock: Bigmoose

“Bigmoose has helped me to transform my life for the better in the past. They are a small charity and every penny raised is put to good use - much of it is to provide therapy for those suffering (some homeless and many suicidal) but without the means to pay for private therapy or wait 10+ months for NHS counselling. The founders Chloe and Jeff are incredible, selfless people who are working tirelessly to lower the suicide rate in England and Wales and they deserve all the support they can get.”

Sarah Ben Tahar: Jay Paynes's Family

Sarah Ben Tahar: Jay Paynes's Family

"This family lives in Gosport, the mum is a childhood friend of my girlfriend. Their flat caught fire at midnight and Jay Paynes (the dad) managed to save his family by "throwing his wife and 7 And 4-year-old daughters along with their 2 dogs out of a top floor window". They have lost everything they had. This will help them recover from this very sad event of their lives. There was a lot of press coverage and here is an article from the BBC which details the story”

Ashley Metcalfe: LAM Action

Ashley Metcalfe: LAM Action

“LAM is a rare lung disease that occurs almost exclusively in women. For every million women approximately 7 will have LAM. We are aware of approximately 400 women in the United Kingdom who have LAM and around 25 new cases are diagnosed each year. It appears to occur worldwide and is equally rare in other countries. A very close friend of mine was diagnosed with LAM over 10 years ago and due to the rarity of the disease, the foundation does not get a lot of exposure or support. This donation would help them continue to provide support for UK sufferers.”

Mihaela Dudova: Alzheimer’s Research

Mihaela Dudova: Alzheimer’s Research

“Alzheimer's Research UK funds scientific studies to find ways to treat, cure or prevent all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, and others. The issue is important to me, as my grandfather, whom I was very close with, had Alzheimer's. The illness continued to get worse until he couldn´t recognise his family and became completely dependent.”
