Lazy Susan and charity: water are transforming lives through clean water

At Lazy Susan, we believe business can be a force for good. That belief drives our Do Some Good initiative — a long-term campaign that channels our resources, creativity, and community into meaningful change.

Since its inception, Do Some Good has been about more than giving; it’s about creating sustainable solutions that empower communities and open doors for future generations.

Through this initiative, we’re proud to partner with charity: water, a non-profit dedicated to bringing clean and safe drinking water to communities in developing countries.

Since 2006, charity: water has funded thousands of projects worldwide, transforming millions of lives through transparency, accountability, and measurable outcomes — values we proudly share.

A Look Back: Our Water Projects

Over the past two years, our partnership with charity: water has funded two transformative projects in Cambodia and India.

Their local partners have been hard at work bringing these initiatives to life, and together, we’ve seen how access to clean water can change everything.

Cambodia – Biosand Filter Systems

In October 2023, Lazy Susan funded the installation of biosand filter systems across several Cambodian communities. These low-cost, effective filters remove harmful pathogens, making local water supplies safe to drink.

Thanks to this initiative, 992 people now have reliable access to clean water. For these families, the change is profound. Children can attend school regularly, parents can focus on work, and entire communities can invest their time in growth rather than survival.

The technology may be simple — but its effect is life-changing.

India – Piped Water Systems in Schools

In December 2023, we supported the installation of piped water systems across schools in Odisha and Jharkhand, providing 866 students and staff with clean, safe water.

Before this, many children spent hours fetching water or fell ill from unsafe sources. Now, with water directly on tap, students can focus on learning, and teachers can maintain clean, healthy facilities.

It’s a small change that has dramatically improved attendance, well-being, and opportunity.

Seeing the Impact

One of the things we value most about charity: water is their commitment to transparency. Each project includes a detailed reporting dashboard with GPS locations, photos, and data showing exactly how many people are served.

As Ellie Jefferies, Director of Brand Partnerships and Marketing at charity: water UK, explains:

“These children will have different futures from their parents because of clean water. Providing this basic right allows girls to get an education, improves the health of a community and creates gender equity.”

For the Lazy Susan team, these updates are a constant source of inspiration — a tangible reminder of why Do Some Good exists and how collective action creates real-world change.

Why Doing Some Good Matters

Do Some Good was born from a simple belief: that every business can use its resources to make the world better. For us, that means not only funding life-changing projects but encouraging everyone — from our team to our customers — to get involved.

Through this initiative, we aim to:

  • Support sustainable solutions
Funding long-term initiatives that create lasting positive change.
  • Empower communities
Unlocking opportunities for better health, education, and independence.
  • Create measurable impact
Partnering with organisations that provide transparent reporting.
  • Inspire others
Leading by example to spark meaningful action.

Our long-standing partnership with charity: water embodies these values — a shared commitment to collaboration, transparency, and lasting impact.

The Ripple Effects of Clean Water

The benefits of clean water extend far beyond hydration:

  • Health
Safe water prevents disease and promotes well-being.
  • Education
Children stay in school instead of fetching water.
  • Gender equity
Girls gain time and opportunity when water is nearby.
  • Economic growth
Healthy families can focus on building livelihoods.

By supporting biosand filters and piped water systems, Lazy Susan has helped bring lasting change to communities in Cambodia and India. Each tap is a testament to improved lives and brighter futures.

Looking Forward

While these projects have concluded, our commitment continues.

The lessons learned and the success achieved fuel our passion for future partnerships. Lazy Susan remains dedicated to expanding Do Some Good — funding more water projects, exploring new regions, and sharing transparent results every step of the way.

As Ellie from charity: water reminds us:

“Providing this basic right allows girls to get an education, improves the health of a community and creates gender equity. Thank you for helping improve the lives of people just like you and me.”

We couldn’t agree more. Clean water changes everything — and we’re proud to keep playing our part.

The Spring - The charity: water story

In 2006, former nightclub promoter Scott Harrison set out to solve the water crisis in his lifetime. Today, more than one million people have made it their mission too. This is all of our story:
