What colour parasol is best for sun protection?

Darker colours like navy often block more UV rays, but lighter colours like stone or green reflect heat better.

Is a round or square parasol better?

Round parasols tend to be the most adaptable shape for offering ample shade around a table. They are available in a range of diameters from 2.5 metres to 3.5 metres.

How do you know what size parasol to buy?

Match the parasol size to your furniture. A 2.5 metre parasol suits a bistro set or smaller table, while 3 metres plus works best for larger dining tables and loungers.

How to pick a parasol?

Consider diameter, colour, whether you need it to tilt, ease of use (all our outdoor umbrellas have a wind-up handle) and base weight.

Which parasol is best in wind?

Look for wind-resistant parasols with fibreglass ribs, strong aluminium frames, and a secure base.

Is a 2m parasol big enough?

A 2 metre parasol is a little on the small size, which is why our parasols start at 2.5 metre diameter, which is perfect for a bistro table or a small balcony.

Is there a difference between a parasol and an umbrella?

Yes, parasols are designed primarily for sun protection and to provide shade, while umbrellas are built for rain and are made of waterproof materials.

Is a dark or light parasol better?

Dark colours like navy block more UV rays and fade more slowly. Light colours reflect heat and stay cooler but may mark more easily.

What’s the best patio umbrella to buy?

One with the perfect diameter for your table, with fibreglass ribs to give it strength and flexibility, fast-drying, lightly water-resistant, a crank handle for ease of use and a solid base to provide stability on a breezy day.

Can the sun get through a parasol?

Whilst a garden parasol can offer quite a bit of protection, it is possible for the sun to penetrate. It’s best to locate the table in partial shade if possible, wear UV sunscreen and limit exposure to the sun’s rays in the middle of the day.

Do parasols stop rain?

Our parasols are water-resistant (and quick-drying) but are not waterproof. They provide some rain protection but are not designed for that purpose. They are designed to provide shade from the sun.

Do you still tan under a parasol?

Whilst a garden parasol can offer quite a bit of protection, it is possible to still get a tan while using a parasol as indirect sunlight can still reach the skin.

What is the most popular colour for a patio umbrella?

Stone or green are currently the most popular colours for a patio umbrella due to their neutral tones and ability to match a range of garden furniture.

Can I leave my parasol out in the rain?

It’s best to close and store parasols during rain or storms to prevent damage and discolouration.

Do parasol bases fit all parasols?

No. Check the pole diameter and base insert compatibility before purchasing.
