Our favourite vegan BBQ recipes for summer 2022

Whether you're vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, flexitarian or non of the above, our favourite vegan BBQ recipes for summer 2022 will wow all guests at your next cookout!

It was the official start of summer on the 21st of June and we’ve seen some lovely sunny weather of late, so this weekend is the perfect opportunity to set your Lazy Susan Garden Table and fire up the BBQ.

When it comes to what to cook, the meat-eaters have the BBQ down to a fine art. However, vegetarian and vegan BBQ options have come a long way too, and some of the best vegan cooking we’ve eaten is done on an open flame or in a pizza oven.

If you’re looking for a little inspiration, then our favourite vegan BBQ recipes for summer 2022 are guaranteed to wow your friends and family at your next cookout.

For the Lazy Susan team, the key to good vegan cooking is to avoid any of that supermarket ready-made rubbish and go fresh. If you want a good plant-based burger, make it yourself, trust us you’ll even win over the non-vegans!

Lazy Susan's Top 5 Vegan BBQ Recipes

We don’t want to preach but aside from ethical and environmental, going vegan is a great opportunity to learn more about cooking and nutrition and it can really improve your health.

You get so much more in terms of nutrients from plant-based foods and it encourages you to introduce more superfoods like grains, fruits, nuts, seeds and vegetables into your diet.

If you want to look more into the reasons why then Peta’s 10 reasons to go vegan in 2022 is a great place to start.

Even if you’re not ready to ditch the meat altogether, eating plant-based meals a few times a week is a great way to do your bit.

According to recent research by German food-tech company Greenforce, if we all shifted to plant-based foods just two days per week for one year, it is the same as planting 13.88 billion trees.

They have established that:

A partial plant-based shift could have an enormous impact on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. If the entire adult population of the UK went plant-based just two days a week, it could save 291 million metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year.

Certainly food for thought if you’ll pardon the pun.

Our Top 5 vegan BBQ recipes for summer 2022

Whether you are vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, flexitarian or non of the above, our favourite vegan BBQ recipes for summer 2022 are a great way to explore some tasty but simple vegan cooking and wow all the guests at your next cookout…

1. Lazy Susan’s favourite plant-based BBQ burger

We’ll be honest, you can buy some pretty tasty plant-based burgers from the supermarket. And whilst they’re OK cooked inside, they can often be a little too wet and sticky for the BBQ grill.

However, if you really want to impress your guests, then Give It Some Thyme’s Southwest Black Bean Burger is the real winner in our book.

Loaded with a wonderful sweet and spicy chipotle-style southwestern flavour, they’re easy to make from a simple list of easy-to-get ingredients.

Plus, they’re even better cooked on the BBQ as that little bit of smokey char from the grill takes these hearty meat-free burgers to the next level.

2. Lazy Susan’s favourite veggie kebab

Tofu gets a bit of a bad rap, but much like pasta, it only tastes bland if you don’t do something exciting with it.

Vanilla & Bean's delicious Grilled BBQ Tofu Vegetable Kebabs will convince even the biggest grill snob that it is more than just a healthy superfood.

As Traci at Vanilla & Bean puts it:

Easy to pull together, these grilled vegan kebabs are a perfect solution for vegans and vegetarians to whip out at BBQs with friends and family where meat is generally the centre of attention.

These vegan kebabs are simple to make and packed with summer veggies, they not only look great, they taste sublime!

3. Lazy Susan’s Favourite vegan BBQ wings

Jessica in the Kitchen has this wonderful BBQ Cauliflower Wings recipe that we guarantee will get people talking.

It is one of those recipes that, trust us, will even get the meat-eaters saying it's as good as the meat version. It just works and puts a healthy twist on a BBQ classic.

The ingredients couldn’t be easier, and the crispy coating paired with a divine smoky sauce will make for the perfect appetiser at your next summer BBQ.

4. Lazy Susan’s favourite vegan BBQ sauce

For us, a good BBQ sauce is essential. Many of the recipes above feature one. You can baste a cauliflower steak, make pulled jackfruit or just dip some crispy sweet potato fries in it.

However, we’ve found that the trick to the good ones is to keep them super simple and easy to make!

Our go-to is Nora Cooks super tasty but super quick to make Easy Vegan BBQ Sauce, which definitely knocks spots off any of store-bought sauces we've tried.

5. Lazy Susan’s favourite vegan BBQ side

A BBQ without a food selection of sides just isn’t a BBQ. The grill might be the star of the show but the sides are the supporting cast. And for Lazy Susan, if we have to pick one, it just had to be a crunchy slaw.

Cookie + Kate gets our vote with their fab Simple Healthy Slaw. They prove that even the most simple of ingredients can make for the best recipes.

Nothing beats a colourful slaw bursting with flavour and freshness, and when it comes to the BBQ, be it a vegan burger or veggie steak, this goes with it.
