Traditional barbecues come in all shapes and sizes from a variety of DIY stores, but if you are serious about your BBQ and enjoy a little DIY, then what could be more satisfying than building your own DIY brick BBQ?
The materials you need are pretty cheap, and as well as making a unique 'fixed' feature it will blend seamlessly with your home and patio.
Not to mention that fact it will last much longer than metal, which tends to be a rusted mess after a year or two of the British weather and all the time we put off cleaning after use.
Firstly, think about the position of your brick BBQ. You don't want your BBQ to suddenly become the dominant feature and take over your patio.
Tucked in a corner is always your best bet, but make sure there isn't anything close by that could be damaged from the heat etc. Plus you need space to move around and cook safely.
Wherever you decide to build your BBQ, the key is to construct it on a solid foundation. Securely bedded paving slabs are the ideal choice for the base.
And I'm no builder, but with a little basic DIY, you can build something fab. So to get you started, here are some great 'How To' videos I used before I tackled my own brick BBQ...
