Our top home and garden design TV shows to stream

If you’re looking for some inspiration, then the Lazy Susan team have picked our top home and garden design TV shows to stream in the UK…

We’ve already looked at some of our favourite home and garden design shows for Summer 2024 but another great source of inspiration that we often touch on is the many fab TV shows you can stream.

Whilst some on our list are well-known, others could have flown under your radar if they’re on say a streaming platform such as Netflix or at a time of day you’re not watching TV.

The great thing about the shows on our list is that often feature innovative design ideas, creative solutions, and stylish garden furniture trends that can inspire you to transform your outdoor space.

Lazy Susan's April Bench on ITV's Love Your Garden

Our furniture has featured on a number of these shows too, with the episode of ITV’s Love Your Garden (pictured above) in particular bringing a spike in sales of our April Garden Bench in Slate whenever it airs.

Regardless if the focus is interior, garden design, or a mix of both, you can always pick up some great tips, inspiration and techniques from experts in interior design, landscaping, architecture, and home improvement. They will provide practical advice on everything from colour schemes to furniture arrangement to plant selection.

Many of the big shows will also showcase homeowners facing many of the common challenges we face in our own homes and gardens, such as limited space, awkward layouts, or budget constraints. Watching how a top designer tackles these problems is a great way to find a solution for similar issues in your own home.

At the end of the day though, they’re just a fun watch and a great way to relax after a long day.

Whether you’re a design enthusiast looking for inspiration or a homeowner seeking practical advice, home and garden design TV shows will always offer valuable insight and entertainment.

Here are our favourite home and garden design TV shows that you can stream now in the UK:

1. Grand Designs

We are big fans of both Kevin and his long-running series. When it comes to garden furniture, it is often a blink and you miss it during the big reveal (we have seen our furniture on it in the past) but it is just top telly.

Following brave individuals who’ve undertaken an ambitious and often unconventional house-building project, the results, no matter how arduous the process, are always a joy to see.

It offers some wonderful insight into the often scary world of architectural design, construction, and innovative building techniques, and you will find over 20 seasons of Grand Designs to stream now on All 4.

2. The Great Interior Design Challenge

The Great Interior Design Challenge has been running for several years but many of us here at Lazy Susan only discovered it recently. Which is a good thing as it means you can go back and binge-watch.

The series sees a host of amateur designers competing in design challenges and showcasing their creativity and design skills. A kind of X-factor for interior designers if you like.

You get some big personalities and sometimes the designs are pretty out there but the creativity is always amazing and many from the show have gone on to big things. At the time of posting this article it was not available on BBC iPlayer but keep an eye on the planner as they regularly re-run it.

3. Gardeners’ World

Hosted by the don himself, Monty Don and a plethora of green-thumbed experts, Gardeners' World is the show to watch if you’re looking for practical gardening advice, tips for garden maintenance, and inspiration for creating beautiful outdoor spaces.

Again, whilst garden furniture is often not at the forefront of what they do, it does feature regularly, and it is still the best show on TV when it comes to information, inspiration, and camaraderie for anyone interested in gardening and horticulture. Gardening is more than a hobby but also a way to connect with nature and the outdoors.

We love the way the show fosters a real sense of community though. Whether it's exploring community allotments or showcasing viewer’s projects, we love the way it champions the diverse and passionate gardening community. You can stream over 40 episodes on BBC iPlayer now.

4. Amazing Interiors

Netflix is maybe not our first port of call when looking for home and garden shows as we tend to think of the platform's focus on great drama and movies. However, there are some real gems on there and Amazing Interiors is our pick of the bunch.

The series explores homes with incredible and surprising interiors, showcasing unique design ideas and some truly wonderful style inspo.

We have found the series to be a great source of inspiration for homeowners looking to transform their living spaces. The old saying of never judging a book by its cover is a great fit for this show.

Whilst many of the homeowners featured are often a little on the eccentric side, the homes themselves will often look very normal from the outside, but when you get inside there are always big surprises.

You can stream the latest series of 12 episodes on Netflix now and we’ve got our fingers crossed for a new season hopefully coming very soon.

5. Love Your Garden

Of course, we had to include our old friend, Alan Titchmarsh. Garden furniture often feels like an afterthought with many of these shows, when in fact it is (and should be) an integral part of every garden design.

Not with the Love Your Garden team though. While the shows focus on the design layout and landscaping, they always make sure that furniture is a key feature of the finished design to give the homeowners a space they can truly enjoy.

Alan travels the country to give surprise garden transformations to some of Britain's most deserving people, and he has a great team of experts to help him in David Domoney, Katie Rushworth and Frances Tophill.

Each episode sees the team transform a neglected plot into a stunning garden and lifestyle-enhancing outdoor living space. At the same time, it also informs and inspires us on how we can re-create the look ourselves, and you can stream the latest 6 series on ITVX now!

6. Your Garden Made Perfect

The home and garden makeover show format had become a little tired but then along came the awesome Your Garden Made Perfect team to shake things up.

Presented by the wonderful Angela Scanlon, this innovative series uses augmented reality to demonstrate potential garden transformations and help homeowners best visualise and plan how their outdoor spaces can be given some serious wow factor.

We love how this show focuses on the design side. However, if we had one tiny criticism, the actual landscaping and finished garden can feel a little rushed towards the end of the episode.

That said, it’s nice they’re mixing up the format and you can watch series 4 on the BBC iPlayer with a new series hopefully coming in the summer.

These are just a few examples of some of the home and garden design TV shows available for streaming in the UK. Remember to check the specific streaming platforms for the most up-to-date availability and viewing options.
